Community
We are a warm and inclusive school, with many opportunities to get involved in your child’s learning journey. Inclusion and belonging are built through our connections with students, staff, families and the wider community. Students have a strong sense of belonging and connectedness to our school.
Aireys Inlet parents and carers are actively encouraged to participate in the school through our Parents and Friends Association, School Council and Classroom Helpers. Whether you wish to participate in fundraising, community consultations, governance or spending time in your children’s classroom helping out, we appreciate your time to help make our school as lively and engaging as we can. Grandparents, other family members and other people special to your child are also welcome.
School Council
All government schools in Victoria have a school council. They are legally constituted bodies that are given powers to set the key directions of a school within statewide guidelines. In doing this, a school council is able to directly influence the quality of education that the school provides for its students.
If you are interested in joining the School Council, please talk to the Principal, School Council President or a sitting member of the council about how to nominate.
Why is Parent Membership so Important?
Parents on school councils provide important viewpoints and have valuable skills that can help shape the direction of the school. Those parents who become active on a school council find their involvement satisfying in itself and may also find that their children feel a greater sense of belonging.
How Can You Become Involved?
The most obvious way is to vote in the elections, which are held in Term one each year. However, ballots are only held if more people nominate as candidates than there are positions vacant.
In view of this, you might seriously consider
• standing for election as a member of the school council
• encouraging another person to stand for election.
Do I Need Special Experience To Be On School Council?
No. What you do need is an interest in your child’s school and the desire to work in partnership with others to help shape the school’s future.
The Aireys Inlet School Council currently meets on a Thursday evenings with eight meeting dates set throughout the year.
Parent and Friends Association
‘Parents and Friends of Aireys Inlet Primary School’ of the school is a group of people who organise events for the kids and the school, participate in activities with kids, raise money and are a voice for parents on things that matter to them.

We participate in the Anglesea resale (tip) shed, assist in the Surfcoast Century Run, organise the school fair, chai cafes, the winter solstice lantern parade, assist students in their fundraising efforts, garden and speak with school council and the principal about matters at the school.
Over the years our fundraising has bought many resources to the school. A current focus is on energy efficiency and solar panels for the school.
We meet every month alternating monthly in day and night meetings.
Everyone is welcome to come. If you can’t come, we can send you minutes to keep you up to date.

Classroom Helpers
We encourage not only parents and carers but also welcome grandparents and other family members to become classroom helpers. A Classroom Helpers Course is run in term one each year. Participation in the program enables helpers to understand the process of learning and effectively support students in classroom activities.
At Aireys Inlet Primary School we welcome helpers into our classrooms. If you are interested in becoming a classroom helper please advise the classroom teacher of your availability and provide a copy of a current Working with children check (WWC) to the office.
To obtain a volunteer WWC you can apply online or through Australia Post free of charge.
